Frequently Asked Questions

Q) Where can I find a compounding pharmacy closest to me?

A) Please refer to the Association of Compounding Pharmacists of Canada (ACPC) website at www.acpcrx.org and choose the tab entitled “Pharmacies”. This will give you contact information for ACPC members in Canada that are most closely located to you.

Q) I am a person living in the United States. Do you have a recommendation for a Canadian pharmacy to compound my prescriptions for me?

A) Canadian federal law requires that a prescription be written by a practitioner licensed to practice in a province or territory of Canada. An alternative path would be to go to www.pccarx.org and click on “Find a compounder” at the bottom left of the main page and you will be directed to a compounding pharmacy closest to your zip code.

Q) I am a pharmacist in Canada. Where do I go to start a compounding pharmacy or become a compounding pharmacist?

A) Proper training is essential to becoming a compounding pharmacist. We would recommend you search out a comprehensive training program from either Professional Compounding Centres of America (PCCA) at 1-800-668-9453 or Medisca at 1-800-665-6334. You should also contact your provincial college of pharmacy to get a comprehensive guideline to opening a compounding pharmacy and for preparing compounded medications.

Q) Can you tell me how I can get bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT)?

A) Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) does require a prescription from a Canadian physician to be dispensed inCanada. Please contact the member pharmacy of ACPC closest to your location (under “Pharmacies” on this website) and they may be able to provide you the BHRT information that you require. You will notice that certain members of the ACPC have the letter “H” beside their pharmacy on our website. These pharmacies specialize in hormone therapy.
